The importance of character and role models are obvious to most of us in our everyday lives. Most children are exposed to all types of "successful" men and women on a daily basis. Unfortunately, many of the boys at Glenn Springs Academy do not have this type of exposure and of this, the 25 Men of Distinction was born. At the Academy we feel it is important not only to have strong male role models, but to have strong female role models too.
In 2009 we will honor 25 Women of Distinction to join our men from 2008. Their story will be featured in Legacy Hall to serve as an example of character and success whether through running a family business, a corporate executive, a volunteer, or one great Mom!

There is always one moment in childhood when the door opens and lets the future in.
Childhood is the time of our life when we dream of everything possible, the flight and fire of a dragon, the tooth fairy, hot chocolate on a cold morning and hitting the winning grand slam in the World Series. These are the things a child should dream of, but some children dream of a stable and safe home, a home without worries, a home without violence and a home with love. These are our boys, the boys of Glenn Springs Academy.
In every community, there are those that step forward and work to make the community a better place. They work tirelessly through their Church, through Scouts, civic organizations, social groups, schools and through philanthropy. These are the community leaders that understand the best legacy you build, is the legacy of a child. These are the community leaders that we honor as the 2008 Men of Distinction.
Glenn Springs Academy, originally founded as the Spartanburg Boys’ Home, is a private non-profit home and educational facility for abused, neglected, or abandoned boys from across the Upstate of South Carolina. Most of the boys have been placed in the custody of the State of South Carolina. In many cases, the rights of the parents have been terminated due to habitual abuse. The Academy is dedicated to providing a home where boys can find a childhood. Our mission is accomplished through the provision of a stable environment with opportunities to grow and become responsible citizens through professional counseling and education.
The programming at Glenn Springs Academy goes far beyond providing for the basic needs of the boys. Our responsibility to provide safety, shelter, and nourishment is a given. Our goals are much, much higher. We strive to provide each boy with a childhood filled with enriching experiences, fond memories and lessons for a lifetime.
