The boys of the Academy range in ages 10 - 21 and have a background of physical, sexual and mental abuse. Many of the boys are also abandoned and have no family members able to take them home. A: Glenn Springs Academy was originally incorporated as the Spartanburg Boys' Home in 1971 through the vision and leadership of Judge Paul McChesney. In September of 2007, the name changed to Glenn Springs Academy to reflect the expectations of achieving success. |
Q: What can I do to help?
A: You can help in many ways from contributions, in-kind donations/services and volunteering.
Contributions: many of the very basic needs are provided by State funding, but in raising a boy into a young man, we feel it is important for the boys to live in a "home" and have the same opportunities as other children. Many of the boys come to us with only the clothing on their back and nothing else. Contributions help cover the costs of school supplies, clothing, extracuriccular activities, personal hygiene and other costs of raising a young man.
In-Kind Contributions: The Academy can utilize contributions that offset current expenses such as office supplies/equipment, linens, landscaping, building services/maintenance and event tickets for the boys.
Volunteers: Opportunities are abundant for single volunteer opportunities, groups and regularly scheduled volunteers (tutoring or helping with homework). |
