Calling for Scout Leaders!
|
|
On Thursday, October 30th, the Glenn Springs Academy Board of Directors voted to approve the new Boy Scouts of America Troop 171. The Troop number is to signify the founding of Spartanburg Boys Home in 1971. Initially the Troop will have 6 - 8 active scouts with the possibility of growth in the near future.
Thanks to a generous grant through the Boy Scouts, the boys of Glenn Springs Academy will have their uniforms, registrations, Boy's Life and scout books donated for 2008. In order to make our new Troop successful, we need VOLUNTEERS! If you have scouting experience or if you don't have any scout experience, we can use you in the Troop! Also, here are a few specific volunteer opportunities within the troop:
-Assistant Scout Master: Help to organize the activities and schedule of the troop -2 Committee Members: Help to make decisions and work with Academy staff -Outdoor Chair: Organize on campus and off campus camping trips / achievements -Merit Badge Coordinator: Organize an annual schedule of Merit badges for Troop 171 -Summer Camp Coordinator: Help organize the annual summer camp for Scouts (Camp Bob Hardin) -Merit Badge Instructors (see Merit Badges (Worksheets) for specific badge opportunities) -Advancement Instructors for the following ranks:-Scout -Tenderfoot -Second Class -First Class -Star -Life
Although these are the main volunteer posts, we can use other volunteers for less structured times. If you are interested in talking more about the specific duties, please contact me at your earliest convenience. Please contact Colleen Bishop by phone, 864-583-4367 via email: bishopc@glennspringsacademy.org to learn more about being part of this historic Troop.
